Speculation on Turkey-Israel Relations

In an interview on the sidelines of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels, Fidan said that Turkey supports the US initiative to try to end the war in Ukraine, but stressed that the parties remain"a little bit far" from reaching an agreement, writes Reuters.

"It will be extremely difficult to digest any proposal. […] But when we look at the other option, which is more death and destruction, I think whatever conditions we have… will be more reasonable," Fidan told the quoted source.

During the interview, the Turkish official emphasized that Europe cannot provide Kiev with security guarantees without US support and that a deterrent is needed to prevent fighting from resuming.

"There is a huge effort to get the American side to re-engage in supporting Ukraine's security," he said, referring to recent talks between European states.

Turkey has maintained diplomatic relations with both Russia and Ukraine since the beginning of the invasion in 2022. The country has supported Ukraine's territorial integrity and provided military support, but at the same time has opposed sanctions imposed on Moscow.
