Speculation on Turkey-Israel Relations

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that any potential peace deal between Ukraine and Russia would be difficult to digest, but it would still be better than death and destruction.

He said this in an interview with Reuters, Ukrinform reports.

Fidan said that Turkey supports the US initiative to end the war in Ukraine, but the parties remain a little far from reaching an agreement.

"It will be extremely difficult to digest any proposal. But when we look at the other option, which brings more death and destruction, I think any conditions that we have... will be more reasonable," Fidan said.

Responding to a question about potential security guarantees for Ukraine, Fidan said that Europe cannot provide them without US support, but added that a deterrent factor is needed to prevent hostilities from resuming.

"Enormous efforts are being made to get the American side involved again in supporting Ukraine's security," he said, referring to recent negotiations between European states.

He added that we should expect all parties, including Russia, to respect any final agreement.

Fidan also reiterated Turkey's offer to host representatives of Russia and Ukraine for possible peace talks.

Asked about Trump's dramatic shift in transatlantic security policy, including closer ties with Russia, Fidan said it could be an opportunity for Europe to become more independent from the United States.

As Ukrinform reported, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey is ready to make any contribution, including conducting a negotiation process, to establish a just, lasting, and dignified peace in Ukraine.
