In a message published on the social network X, Ursula von der Leyen stated that"Russia's incursion into Romanian airspace is once again a flagrant violation of EU sovereignty and a serious threat to regional security."

The President of the European Commission stated that the European institutions work "closely with Romania and all member states to protect the EU territory" and sent a message in Romanian: "We stand in solidarity with Romania."

And the European Union's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, condemned on Sunday the entry of Russian drones into Romanian airspace during an attack on Ukraine, calling this action"unacceptable" and expressing the EU's solidarity with Romania.

A Russian drone entered Romanian airspace on Saturday evening and flew over the territory for 50 minutes, before leaving the country over the town of Padina.

Russian Ambassador summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bucharest on Sunday, to convey Romania's firm protest against the entry of a Russian drone into Romanian airspace and to request measures to avoid such incidents in the future, according to a press release.

The convocation was ordered by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in the context of the violation of Romania's airspace by a Russian drone on September 13, 2025. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs qualified this act as"unacceptable and irresponsible", emphasizing that such recurring situations amplify threats to regional security.

The Romanian side called on Russia to immediately take all necessary measures to prevent future airspace violations. Romania remains in permanent contact with its allies and other members of the European Union to coordinate the response to these challenges.
