It has already been reported that the drone attack took place on Sunday night and that a fire broke out at the factory afterwards.

The unit, whose operations have been suspended, provides approximately 40% of the plant's total oil refining capacity, which is approximately 20 million tons per year.

According to Reuters sources, it could take up to a month to repair the damaged equipment. In the meantime, production at the remaining units will be increased to compensate for the shutdown of the damaged equipment. This will allow maintaining processing volumes at about 75%.

According to Reuters data, in 2024, the Kinef plant processed 17.5 million tons of oil, or 6.6% of all oil refined in Russia.

Kinef, located more than 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, is Russia's second-largest oil refinery after Omsk and is the main supplier of petroleum products to St. Petersburg, as well as the Leningrad, Novgorod and Pskov regions. The refinery produces about 80 types of products, including gasoline, diesel, fuel oil and aviation fuel, which is supplied to the Russian army.
