With 132 deputies present, the debate on the treatment of the rejection of President Javier Milei's vetoes of the university financing and Garrahan Hospital laws began this Wednesday, but a striking last-minute libertarian maneuver appeared to cancel the debate.

A little over half an hour into the session, the president of the La Libertad Avanza bloc, the Cordoban Gabriel Bornoroni, asked to speak to make a curious proposal.

How the libertarian maneuver to stop the Chamber of Deputies from insisting on university funding

"The Executive Branch sent the 2026 Budget, and we already have a committee scheduled for next Wednesday, where we'll discuss the education update and also... education. That's why we're telling you now that the same thing that's going to be addressed in the 2026 Budget should be brought back for October, November, and December."

"The 2026 Budget updates that are made now, immediately, in the area of higher education," said the president of the Libertarian bloc.

As she spoke, Radical MP Danya Tavela interrupted."Just to clarify for those following the session. Today's discussion goes far beyond the discussion that begins next week regarding the 2026 Budget."

"There is no retroactive budget discussion. The one that was submitted is for 2026; 2025 is already underway, and we are demanding budget updates for Garrahan and the universities starting in 2024, something the government forgot to do. So, there's nothing left to discuss," the Radical representative emphasized.

Faced with the refusal, Bornoroni tried to be clearer, and even showed a certain haste on the part of the Government to close the issue:"It is precisely to update now, immediately, October, November and December. It is not for 2026, it is for now, 2025."

In case there was any doubt that he intended to prevent the debate from taking place in the special session of the House of Representatives, Bornoroni read the written proposal:"To not open the topic and to convene the Finance and Budget Committee for next Tuesday and discuss the university issue in the committee."

While boos from opposition deputies and a few laughs at the unexpected offer could be heard in the background, Bornoroni emphasized:"This way, we guarantee a timely and reasonable proposal, and we will reach an agreement with all the blocs we support."
