"This visit is proof of the durability and breadth of the Israeli-American alliance," Netanyahu said in Jerusalem, speaking alongside Rubio, minutes after the US secretary of state prayed at the Western Wall.

"This alliance has never been stronger," Netanyahu added, according to Bloomberg.

Rubio said before leaving for Israel that he planned to discuss with Netanyahu Israel's attack and its impact on Trump's goal of ending the war and bringing the hostages home from Gaza.

"Our relationship with Israel will remain strong," Rubio said before boarding the plane. The attack"will not change the nature of our relationship with the Israelis, but we will have to talk about it," he said.

Israel's attack on Hamas in Doha has generated tensions in the relationship with the United States.

Rubio said of Qatar that it is"an important partner on many fronts," such as hosting negotiations between the Democratic Republic of Congo and the M23 rebels.

Qatar is home to the largest US military base in the Middle East. The country was instrumental in defending Al Udeid Air Base from an Iranian attack in June. Trump visited Qatar in May as part of a regional tour.
