US President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his position on sanctions against Russia, emphasizing that he will only impose them if Europe increases pressure on Moscow and abandons Russian oil.
He said this while speaking to the press before leaving Bedminster, New Jersey, for Washington, Vlaskor reports to Ukrinform.
NATO has to come together. Europe has to come together… Europe is my friend, but they buy oil from Russia. So we can't expect us to be the only ones who are fully committed to this,” Trump said.
"The president emphasized that the sanctions they are imposing are not tough enough and that he is ready to move in that direction. But they should strengthen their sanctions in line with what I am doing," he noted.
Now they only talk, not act, - the head of the White House noted. According to him, European countries continue to buy Russian oil, in particular through intermediaries. Countries buy oil from Russia and sell it to certain NATO countries - not all, but certain, very significant NATO countries. This is not a matter, - he said.
Trump also commented on the scale of the losses in the war. I know for sure that almost 8,000 young soldiers died this week between the two countries. A little more from Russia, but with the difference, you know, when you are the aggressor, you lose more. He specified the number of losses, calling the figure 8,017, repeating once again that these are not American soldiers. But Russians are still people, human souls.
He emphasized his desire to end the war, again mentioning the $350 billion allegedly spent by President Joe Biden to support Ukraine. Instead, the United States is now selling weapons to NATO countries for Ukrainian needs, he stressed.
"I want to stop the (Russian war, – ed.), and, you know, I stopped seven wars. I thought this one would be easy for me, but it turned out to be the hardest," the head of the White House traditionally interjected.
He also once again pointed out that the hatred between (President Vodomyr) Zelensky and Putin is incomprehensible. They hate each other so much that they can't breathe, he added, thus explaining the parties' reluctance to agree to his proposal for negotiations.
As Ukrinform reported, Trump sent a letter to NATO countries on Saturday, in which he stated that he was ready to impose serious sanctions against Russia if all NATO countries agree and start doing the same, and also stop buying oil from Russia.
