Germany's basketball team became European champions for the second time in history. They defeated Turkey 88:83 (24:22, 40:46, 66:67) in the EuroBasket final in Riga.
Germany won the matchup of undefeated teams with excellent defense, accurate three-point shooting, better rebounding, and most importantly, a variety of enthusiastic players.
The winner was decided in the final two minutes, which Germany played with more concentration and courage. Daniel Theis hit a three-pointer to give Germany an 82:81 lead, and Dennis Schröder, who was named the championship's most valuable player, finished the job with two baskets and two free throws.
For Germany, the most points were scored by Isaac Bonga - 20 points - and Franz Wagner - 18, while for the Turks, the most effective was Alperen Sengun - 28.
Germany became the fifth country to be both world and European champion. The Germans won the gold medal at the 2023 World Championships in Manila. Only the Soviet Union, SFR Yugoslavia, Spain and FR Yugoslavia can boast this prestigious achievement.

Dončić is the top scorer of the championship
Luka Dončić became the tournament's leading scorer with an average of 34.7 points per game. This is the second major tournament he has finished atop the scoring charts. He averaged 27 points per game at the World Championships in Okinawa and Manila.
The Slovenian star was also included in the championship's ideal five. This is the fourth of five major competitions where Dončić was selected to the best squad - EURO 2017, OG 2021, WORLD CUP 2023 and EURO 2025. He was not among the selected only at EuroBasket 2022.
In addition to him, the top five included Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greece), Alperen Sengun (Turkey), Dennis Schröder and Franz Wagner (both Germany).
