Clearly, the 2025 CAF Awards reflected the achievements and gains of a remarkable Moroccan presence in the continental sports scene, and thus crowned a long path of continuous work and investment in training and sports infrastructure.
Today, Morocco has become one of the leading players in African football, whether at the national team, club, or individual talent level. According to sports analysts interviewed by Hespress, this success is"the culmination of a clear national strategy that has laid new foundations for professionalism and modernization, making Moroccan football a model to be emulated both within and beyond the continent."
November 20th marked a “turning point” in the history of Moroccan football, as the achievements were not limited to one category, but extended to include various categories and major awards, indicating that the abundant harvest and successive gains achieved by a number of Moroccan national teams and players, men and women, reinforce the strong Moroccan sporting influence and prove a “clear dominance” on the continental football scene.
upward trend
Abdelmajid El Khal, a national coach and sports analyst, said that “the CAF awards have reaffirmed the strong Moroccan sporting presence, as well as the clear dominance that has come to characterize national football in almost all categories, with the exception of some categories or divisions that have not yet shone internationally. However, in general, the national teams, whether women’s or men’s, are currently on an upward trajectory. This trajectory also reinforces the strategy set by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation since Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa took over the presidency of the Federation.”
According to Al-Khal, in a statement to Hespress, “There was a long-term vision, in addition to continuous investment.” He added: “We now see the presence of infrastructure and training centers, as well as the training of coaches; this is something we must not forget. Currently, we are waiting for developments in the management system so that clubs can keep pace with the path taken by the national teams.”
The same sports analyst noted that Moroccan football is undergoing a comprehensive reform process, reflected in the achievements across various categories, from youth to women's, futsal, and beach soccer. Furthermore, the continental successes of Moroccan teams like RS Berkane and Wydad Casablanca in recent years highlight the strength of Moroccan sport and its growing prominence year after year.
He concluded by emphasizing: “This development is an incentive for young people to play football, and confirms that continuous and ambitious work can lead Morocco to the highest achievements, and perhaps one day to winning the Ballon d'Or (…) The most important thing is continuity and not stopping at what has been achieved, but continuing efforts to achieve the best.”
“A mark of gold”
Idriss Abiss, the national and local sports administrator, confirmed that Morocco’s honorable presence in the “CAF 2025” awards was not a coincidence; rather, it came as a result of continuous work that extended for about twelve years.
Abiss explained in a statement to Hespress that Morocco has adopted, for years, a clear strategy in the sports field, especially in football, based on modernization, development, and player development.
The national and local sports framework indicated that this strategy contributed to the emergence of a group of national teams, and also led to the brilliance of the Moroccan national team in the World Cup qualifiers, in addition to the emergence of a number of international players who gained greater confidence and achieved global recognition within major clubs.
The same speaker also considered that “the reputation that the Moroccan player has gained reflects the quality of training, whether within traditional schools or within the Mohammed VI Football Academy.”
Abiss added that “the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has succeeded in attracting a number of young players, both from within the country and from abroad, thanks to specialized committees that work with high professionalism; this has contributed to strengthening the talent base that has attracted the attention of analysts and coaches at the continental and international levels.”
In this context, the national framework stressed that “technical stability within the national teams and clubs was a key factor in consolidating this development, which enabled Moroccan football to maintain its competitiveness.”
The aforementioned speaker called for continuing this approach so that Moroccan sport, whether in the male or female category, and in indoor or beach soccer, continues to achieve positive results.
Abiss concluded by emphasizing that Morocco has now become a “golden sign” in the world of football, “thanks to a clear vision, organized work, and results that are strengthened year after year,” as he put it.
