JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno conveyed President Prabowo Subianto's orders regarding flood management in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

"President Prabowo has ordered us to handle this emergency response phase seriously and quickly. At the same time, the government has begun preparing for recovery so that the affected infrastructure can return to normal operation," said Pratikno at the Ministerial Meeting on Accelerating the Handling of Floods and Landslides at Graha BNPB, East Jakarta, on Thursday (11/27/2025).

Pratikno ensured that the emergency response phase occurring in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra was handled seriously, quickly, and in a coordinated manner.

"The central and regional governments continue to work hard to address the emergency. We cannot yet provide an exact death toll because the data collection process is still ongoing and being updated," said Pratikno.

President Prabowo ordered the accelerated restoration of infrastructure and basic services in affected areas.

Pratikno also said that the President instructed the government to begin preparing post-disaster recovery measures.

"This meeting focused on the current situation on the ground, the urgency of emergency response, and the acceleration of infrastructure and basic service recovery in affected areas," he said.

Tropical cyclones Senyar trigger extreme weather

In the meeting, BMKG Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto explained that tropical cyclone Senyar had triggered very heavy rain, extreme winds, floods, landslides, and disruption to sea transportation in three provinces.

"So, in the past few days, floods and landslides have occurred. This was caused by Tropical Cyclone Senyar, which was located in the western Malay Peninsula on the 21st, when it was still Tropical Cyclone Seed 95B. Then, we saw, and yesterday, on the 26th, it became a tropical cyclone," said Guswanto.

Guswanto emphasized that the impact of tropical cyclone Senyar was quite severe, because when it touched the mainland of Sumatra, the storm would rotate from East Aceh, then exit to Aceh Tamiang.

"Well, that's what caused it, and thank God, the storm is gone today. This means it's no longer a threat," he said.

"However, we are still observing the Mesoscale Convective Complex (MCC) in the Indian Ocean. This calls for an emergency response, requiring caution in the Mandailing Natal and West Sumatra regions. Rainfall is still expected," he continued.

Loss of life and damage to infrastructure

Meanwhile, BNPB, Basarnas, and regional heads pointed to increasing casualties and widespread infrastructure damage, including collapsed bridges, roads buried by landslides, and isolated land access.

The Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Air Marshal TNI Mohammad Syafii, said that his agency had conducted eight operations in the Sumatra region, including in Aceh, North Sumatra, and also in West Sumatra.

"All available resources in the region are currently working hard, carrying out operations, particularly evacuating victims who are still isolated," Syafii said.
