The major air attack launched last night by the USA in Iran The company with the code name Midnight Hammer targeted Iranian nuclear facilities, completely surprising Tehran.
As the New York Post points out, for the first time in a military operation, they were used 14 GBU-57 superheavy bombs , also known as Massive Ordnance Penetrators (MOP), which weigh approximately 15 tons each and are designed to penetrate underground fortified shelters.
According to the US Chief of Staff, Gen. Dan Kane, During the approach of the bombers, no response was recorded from the Iranian air defenses. Their systems apparently did not detect us at all during the mission. He noted that there was no enemy fire even during the withdrawal of the American forces.
The business, lasting only 25 minutes, It began at 6:40 p.m., when the first B-2 struck targets at the underground Fordow nuclear complex. Attacks by the remaining bombers followed, hitting a total of three key facilities in the Iranian nuclear program by 7:05 p.m.
The operation was completed with Tomahawk missile launch by an American submarine, with the aim of maintaining surprise until the end.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stressed that this is a historic military operation, as it is the first time the GBU-57A/B has been used operationally – the most powerful armor-piercing bomb that Washington has.
The operation was also described as the second largest B-2 mission since 2001, immediately following the September 11 attacks.
General Kane warned Iran not to retaliate in the region: Our forces remain in highest alert in Iraq, Syria and the Persian Gulf. Any attempted Iranian response would be an extremely ill-calculated step, he said.
