The video surveillance control room, which was inaugurated this Tuesday in the presence of, among others, the police prefect of Marrakech, Mohamed Mchichou, and several security officials, is intended to be an advanced center for monitoring and surveillance of the various activities within the old medina of Marrakech.
Equipped with modern technological equipment, the new room will cover all entry and exit points of this legendary place, in addition to squares, esplanades and historical sites, thus allowing security teams to intervene swiftly if needed.

According to the divisional commander and chief of staff of the urban corps, Abdellatif Kardad, the opening of this room, attached to the command and coordination center at the police prefecture, is intended to strengthen the video surveillance system of the medina and guarantee complete coverage of all areas, in particular those which experience a high influx of visitors and tourists.
He points out that the room has 262 surveillance cameras distributed over the entrances and exits of the police district, including 176 fixed cameras, 23 360° mobile cameras, 45 facial recognition cameras and 18 license plate reading cameras, according to a meticulous strategy developed by experts and technicians from the central services of the police headquarters.
The teams operating in this room have received special training, while additional facilities have also been put in place, including a dedicated emergency meeting room, to ensure the speed and effectiveness of security interventions.
The inauguration of this video surveillance control room is part of the sustained efforts to consolidate the security system in the ochre city and to promote the use of new technologies in control, the objective being to strengthen the feeling of security among citizens and visitors, while ensuring rigorous and permanent monitoring of all activities within the districts of the medina and its historical sites.
