Earlier today, the US Department of the Treasury announced after the meeting Trump and Al-Shara in Washington that the US has temporarily suspended the application of sanctions under the Caesar Act against Syria for 180 days.

The US Treasury Department said that sanctions have been suspended except for certain elements, including transactions related to Russia and Iran.
This decision replaces the previous temporary suspension of sanctions that was introduced on May 23. The Caesar Act, named after a Syrian military deserter who, according to US, smuggled photographs of torture victims under the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, went into effect in June 2020.
These sanctions were directed against the regime of Al Assad and all who do business with him, especially in sectors such as energy, the construction industry and finance.
ousted Assad, Shara led the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, which was previously Al Qaeda 's branch in Syria
, but severed those ties in 2016, according to Western media.
