In the United States, opponents of President Donald Trump's policies have once again gathered for protests. Demonstrations took place across the country under the slogan"No Kings." Organizers accuse Trump of seeking to rule the United States like a king with his style of government and of threatening democracy.

At noon (local time), they announced that millions of people participated peacefully in the protests in more than 800 cities. According to the organizers, around 2,500 demonstrations were planned nationwide.

There were protests in several locations in New York. According to the New York Police Department, more than 100,000 people participated in the various events. There were no riots; no one was arrested. A volunteer at Times Square told the dpa news agency that the crowd filled the street southward to Union Square—a stretch of several kilometers.

There were also protests in the capital, Washington, as well as in Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, and many other cities. Thousands of people took to the streets in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as a dpa reporter reported. People also participated in the rallies in smaller towns like Bethesda in the Washington metropolitan area and Sarasota County, Florida.

"The president believes his rule is absolute. But in America, we have no kings," said the website of the "No Kings" movement, which unites around 300 organizations."We will not retreat from chaos, corruption, and cruelty."

Among other things, Trump's deployment of National Guard troops to several cities governed by the opposition Democrats had recently caused outrage in the USA.

First"No Kings" protests in June

The Trump administration's violent crackdown on migrants and increasingly strict restrictions on media reporting have also met with sharp criticism.

Already on June 14, hundreds of thousands of people demonstrated against Trump in several US cities under the slogan"No Kings." The occasion was a military parade in Washington celebrating the 250th anniversary of the US Army, which Trump had requested and which coincided with his 79th birthday.
