Trump's Criticism of Ukraine Strategy

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky emphasizes that personally prepared for the elections, but the US and European countries must help ensure security in a situation where Russia does not stop the full-scale war against Ukraine. As an UNIAN correspondent reports, Zelensky said this in a comment to journalists.

In particular, the head of state commented on the statement by US President Donald Trump that it was time to hold elections in Ukraine.

"First of all, I want to say that I did not discuss this issue. Second, the issue of elections in Ukraine, it seems to me, depends on our people. And this is an issue for the people of Ukraine, not the people of other states. With all due respect to our partners," Zelenskyy emphasized.

At the same time, as the president openly noted, he is ready for the elections.

"If there is a question, I have heard such hints that we are clinging to power or I personally am clinging to the presidential seat, and that is why I am clinging to it, and that is why the war is not ending, this, to be honest, is a completely inadequate story," Zelensky emphasizes.

In this regard, according to him, there are two points for holding elections.

"First of all, security. How to conduct it? How to do it under strikes, under missiles? And regarding our military, the question of how they will vote? You know that and I don't want to repeat it. And the second question is the legislative basis for the legitimacy of holding elections. And since this issue is raised today by the President of the United States of America, our partners, I will answer very briefly. Look, I am ready for the elections," Zelenskyy states.

At the same time, he openly declares and asks the United States of America to help him.

"We can, together with our European colleagues, ensure security for the elections. And then, in the next sixty, ninety days, Ukraine will be ready to hold elections. I personally have the will and readiness for this," Zelenskyy said.

At the same time, he appeals to the deputies of the"Servant of the People" faction and Ukrainian parliamentarians to prepare legislative proposals on the possibility of changing the legislative framework and the law "On Elections During Martial Law."

"I will be in Ukraine tomorrow. I want to, I am waiting for proposals from partners, I am waiting for proposals from our deputies and I am ready to go to the elections," Zelenskyy stressed.

Trump's statement on the elections in Ukraine

UNIAN previously reported that US President Donald Trump said that, in his opinion, It's time to hold elections in Ukraine. Trump also added that Ukraine is"using the war" to allegedly prevent elections. At the same time, the head of the White House did not rule out that the current President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, would win the elections.

We also wrote that the spokesperson for foreign affairs and security policy, Anitta Gipper, expressed the opinion that Ukraine will be able to hold elections when appropriate conditions allow. She added that Russia is currently continuing an aggressive war against Ukraine. Hipper recalled that Zelensky is a democratically elected leader, and any elections should take place when conditions allow.
