Trump-MBS White House Visit Coverage

Saudi Diplomatic Communications

During his visit to the White House on Tuesday, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced his desire to normalize relations with Israel as soon as possible, noting that the Kingdom “wants to be part of the Abraham Accords,” but stipulated at the same time that the path towards a two-state solution must be clear.

Speaking at a joint press conference with US President Donald Trump, Bin Salman said he had a “constructive discussion” with the US side about ways to advance the political process in the region, adding: “We will work to ensure that the appropriate conditions are created to achieve this goal as soon as possible.”

In parallel with this notable political stance, the Saudi Crown Prince unveiled a plan to increase Saudi investments in the United States to $1 trillion, up from the current $600 billion. He explained that"the Kingdom believes in the future of the American economy" and expressed his confidence in the growing bilateral relations between the two countries. Trump welcomed the move, considering it"evidence of mutual trust and a shared economic vision."

In a related context, Trump praised what he called bin Salman's"remarkable human rights record," describing his guest as "a highly respected man and a longtime friend." This statement came as the White House defended the close partnership between Washington and Riyadh.

The meeting also touched on the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, which the Saudi Crown Prince described as a “grave mistake,” emphasizing that “Saudi authorities are doing everything they can to ensure that what happened will not happen again.” In response to a question about the crime, Trump downplayed the criticism leveled against the Kingdom, saying that Khashoggi was “controversial” and did not enjoy consensus within political circles.
