In a remarkable development, the Moroccan Liaison Office in Tel Aviv succeeded in reaching an agreement to release Moroccan citizens Aziz Ghali and Abdelazim Ben Daraoui. Both were among those participating in the"Global Steadfastness Flotilla" to break the siege on Gaza and were arrested by Israeli authorities several days ago.
According to informed diplomatic sources, Ghali and Ben Daraoui are expected to be deported to Türkiye tomorrow, after the completion of administrative procedures between the Moroccan and Israeli sides through private diplomatic channels.
From the moment of their arrest, the Moroccan authorities, through the liaison office in Tel Aviv, began intensive efforts to verify the conditions of the Moroccan citizens' detention and ensure respect for their legal and human rights.
The same sources confirmed that the office followed up the case directly with the Israeli authorities, within the framework of its consular and diplomatic role, especially after it became clear that the two detainees were not involved in any military or intelligence activity inside Gaza, but rather were part of a symbolic civilian mission aimed at"humanitarian solidarity."
According to observers, this move reflects a qualitative shift in the performance of Moroccan diplomacy, which has become capable of protecting its citizens in conflict zones, regardless of the sensitivity of the political issues involved.
The same diplomatic sources stated that the concept of citizenship, while granting rights, also imposes obligations. Citizens enjoy rights protected by the constitution and guaranteed by law, but they also bear duties and responsibilities toward their country and society.
The sources added that the Moroccan state's interference in the affairs of its citizens, whether inside or outside the country, is not undertaken under any pressure or blackmail, but rather is carried out with full respect for the requirements of national sovereignty and international law. They explained that the protection the Kingdom provides to its citizens residing abroad is a guaranteed right, but it also requires respect for the laws of the host countries and positive cooperation with Moroccan diplomatic and consular representations.
The sources emphasized that these interventions are only undertaken at the request of the concerned parties or their families, and within a framework of responsibility and impartiality, far from any politicization or exploitation by entities or associations attempting to exploit individual cases for private or propaganda purposes.
The file was not without complexity.
Israeli sources revealed that security authorities interrogated Moroccan citizen Aziz Ghali regarding his previous relationship with an Israeli citizen who participated in demonstrations in Morocco against normalization. Ghali is currently accused in Israel of links to Iranian-funded networks working to infiltrate protest movements in Arab countries.
Although the investigation did not result in any direct charges against Ghali, Israel expressed initial security concerns before the crisis was resolved through direct intervention by the Moroccan Liaison Office, which provided all legal and diplomatic guarantees for the detainees' return.
On the other hand, Morocco appears to have opted for a calm diplomatic approach in this case rather than a media confrontation, preferring to work silently to protect its citizens, sending a clear message that relations between Rabat and Tel Aviv do not mean surrendering national sovereignty or remaining silent about the rights of Moroccan citizens wherever they may be.
This incident confirms that Morocco continues to maintain a delicate balance between its historical positions in support of the Palestinian cause and its commitment to modern diplomatic relations that serve its strategic interests in the region. While Rabat is moving diplomatically to protect its citizens in Israel, it remains steadfast in its principled position rejecting any violation of the rights of the Palestinian people. This balance grants it regional credibility unparalleled in the Arab world.
