TEHRAN, KOMPAS.com - Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei claimed victory over Israel after fighting for 12 days since it started on Friday (13/6/2025).

Khamenei made the claim on his social media account X after Iran and Israel agreed to a ceasefire on Tuesday (24/6/2025).

"I congratulate the victory against the Zionist regime," Khamenei wrote.

Khamenei added that Israel had been destroyed as a result of being attacked by Iran.

In addition, Khamenei also mentioned that Iran also won over the United States (US) which was considered to have interfered in the war with Israel.

He said that the US got involved in the war because it felt that Israel could be destroyed if it did not get help.

"The US plunged into the war in an effort to save the regime, but achieved nothing," Khamenei said.

Iran, he said, attacked and caused damage to Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, one of the main US bases in the region.

"The fact that Iran has access to the main US centers in the region and can take action whenever it deems necessary is a significant issue. Such actions may be repeated in the future. In case of aggression, the enemy will definitely pay a heavy price," Khamenei said.

Meanwhile, a retired Israeli colonel, Uri Dromi, said that Iran's claims that it won the war were not credible.

"I couldn't believe I was actually hearing it," the former Israeli government spokesman in the 1990s told Al Jazeera.

"I doubt there is a single Iranian who knows anything about anything who believes it, with Israeli planes roaming freely over Iran," he added.

Iran-Israel War

Israel started the war with Iran after launching a massive airstrike on June 13.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the time that the attack was intended to disable Iran's nuclear weapons.

The Israeli attack also killed senior Iranian military officers and a number of nuclear scientists.
