Russian Perspective on Peace Efforts

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he is ready to hold elections, calling on the United States and European partners to guarantee the security of the process amid the war.

If this is ensured, he said, elections can be held within 60 to 90 days.

He added that he will ask parliament to prepare the necessary legislative framework for them to be held under martial law.

At the same time, he stated that Ukraine is ready for a ceasefire regarding attacks on the energy sector, if Russia agrees. However, he noted that Russian attacks on energy infrastructure prove that Moscow has no intention of peace talks.

He also stressed that Kiev will do everything possible to organize a meeting at the highest level with the United States within the next two weeks within the framework of a peace agreement.

He said he wishes to discuss with the American side the reconstruction of Ukraine as part of any agreement, while new contacts with European and American officials at the level of national security advisors are expected within the week.

The Ukrainian president said the United States has conveyed to Kiev that it wants realistic security guarantees for Ukraine as part of any US-backed peace deal.

He added that Washington did not threaten to halt the PURL arms purchase program during the peace talks.

Trump's ultimatum

Earlier, the Financial Times published information that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, gave Zelensky a deadline of days to respond to an American peace proposal for the war in Ukraine.

According to the report, Trump's US envoys have given Zelensky an ultimatum to respond to the proposed peace deal. The proposal stipulates that Ukraine would accept territorial losses in exchange for unspecified security guarantees from the United States.

Zelensky told European leaders that he was under intense pressure, during a two-hour phone call on Saturday, from Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and the US president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to make an immediate decision on the US peace proposal.

A person familiar with the timetable proposed in Kiev said Trump is seeking a deal by Christmas .

Zelensky, as reported by officials, responded to the American envoys that he needs time to consult with other European allies before taking a position on Washington's proposal.

Putin: Russia will go all the way

For his part, Vladimir Putin, speaking at the Human Rights Council meeting in Moscow, stated that Russia will see the special military operation in Ukraine through to the end.

We will lead this case until all the objectives of the special military operation are achieved, he said, and argued that Donbass and the occupied Ukrainian territories have always been Russian.

Troops control part of Pokrovsk

The top commander of the Ukrainian armed forces said Ukrainian troops have held parts of Pokrovsk under their control since mid-November, but some units were ordered last week to withdraw from untenable positions outside the city.

"We continue to hold the northern part of the city, approximately up to the railway line. In addition, west of Pokrovsk we have cleared and control approximately 54 square kilometers," said Olexandr Shirsky.
