A week after the spectacular burglary at the Louvre, the investigation has taken a decisive turn. Among the two suspects arrested Saturday evening, one was arrested at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport as he was preparing to board a flight to Algiers, according to information confirmed by France Inter and Paris Match. Known to the police, the man was taken into custody, Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said in a statement published Sunday, October 26.

Investigators were able to identify the suspect thanks to DNA traces found at the scene of the burglary at the Louvre Museum, according to sources close to the case cited by France Télévisions. This individual is believed to be involved, alongside three accomplices, two of whom are still wanted, in the spectacular robbery that occurred on October 19. On that day, four criminals stormed the Apollo Gallery, two of them accessing the room using a cherry picker while the other two escaped on a scooter.

The damage is estimated at nearly 88 million euros, an amount described as extremely spectacular by the prosecutor, even if it cannot be compared to the historical value of the stolen pieces. Among the eight stolen Crown Jewels are the Empress Eugenie's tiara, set with nearly 2,000 diamonds, and the sapphire necklace that belonged to Queens Marie-Amélie and Hortense.
