"It's not just about the conditions that end the hostilities," Rubio, who led the US delegation, told reporters after the talks.

"It's also about the conditions that ensure long-term prosperity for Ukraine. (..) I think we developed that today, but there's still a lot to do," he said, without providing further details.

"It's delicate. It's complicated," Rubio said.

"There are a lot of moving parts, and there is obviously another side that has to be part of the equation," the US Secretary of State said, referring to Russia.

He added that a continuation is expected early next week, when US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, will travel to Moscow, where he is scheduled to meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

The head of the Ukrainian delegation, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, who, together with Rubio, made a statement to reporters after the talks, also said that the talks had been"productive and successful", but did not elaborate on what progress, if any, had been made during the talks.

Umerov emphasized Ukraine's gratitude for US support during the nearly four-year war.

"Our goal is a prosperous, strong Ukraine," Umerov said."We discussed all the important issues that are important for Ukraine, for the Ukrainian people, and the United States supported us very much," Umerov said.

A source in the Ukrainian delegation previously told AFP that the talks had not gone smoothly.

The US side also included Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, who will travel to Moscow early next week.

The talks took place at the Shell Bay Golf Club in Hallandale Beach, which is owned by Witkoff.

It has already been reported that the 28-point plan proposed by the US was very favorable to Russia in its initial version. It demanded that Ukraine return the territories occupied by Russia, as well as those that Russia had not conquered at all. It also demanded that Kiev commit to never joining NATO and reduce its army.

During talks between the US, Ukraine and European representatives in Geneva a week ago, the US plan was changed to take more account of Ukraine's position. However, Bloomberg reported that while Washington reports progress in talks with Ukraine, the talks are still hampered by the same obstacles as before, namely that what is acceptable to Ukraine is not acceptable to Russia, and vice versa.
