• The army said that Nimrodi was killed in captivity and that final conclusions will be made after studying the causes of his death
The families of the Israeli prisoners announced on Wednesday that soldier Tamir Nimrodi was killed in an Israeli airstrike while he was being held captive by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
On Tuesday evening, Tel Aviv received Nimrodi's body from Hamas and confirmed his identity. He was among eight Israeli bodies handed over by the movement since Monday.
Channel 12 (private) reported on Wednesday that the families of the prisoners said that"Nimrodi was killed by Israeli army shelling while he was in Hamas captivity."
Both the soldier's family and the Israeli army said that Nimrodi "was killed in Hamas captivity," without further details. The soldier's family said in a statement:"We received the difficult news about identifying Tamir's body. He was killed in Hamas captivity."
The Israeli occupation army said in a statement about Nimrodi: "Estimates indicate that he was killed in captivity at the beginning of the war."
He continued,"Final conclusions will be formulated after the completion of the study of the causes of death at the Forensic Medicine Institute."
Hamas has repeatedly emphasized that it is making every effort to preserve the lives of prisoners, and warned that the bloody and indiscriminate Israeli bombardment threatens their lives.
In addition to the bodies of the eight captives, Hamas has released 20 living Israeli captives, and says it needs time to retrieve the bodies of the remaining 20.
In return, Israel released 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences, in addition to 1,718 prisoners it had arrested from the Gaza Strip after October 8, 2023.
More than 10,000 Palestinian prisoners, including women and children, remain languishing in Israeli prisons, suffering torture, starvation, and medical neglect. Many of them have been killed, according to Palestinian and Israeli human rights and media reports.
With American support, Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza for two years since October 8, 2023, leaving 67,913 martyrs and 170,134 wounded, most of them children and women, and causing a famine that claimed the lives of 463 Palestinians, including 157 children.
