Two National Guard soldiers were shot in Washington, the capital of the United States. It was reported that the soldiers lost their lives in the incident that took place near the White House.

The Washington D.C. Police Department announced in a post on the social media platform of the US-based company X that a suspect was detained in connection with the incident.

US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the incident and stated that the Department is investigating the incident.

An image allegedly belonging to one of the soldiers who was shot was shared on social media.

US President Donald Trump made a statement about the incident on his Truth Social account.  Trump stated that two National Guard soldiers were being treated in the hospital and used the term"animal" for the person who carried out the attack.  The US President stated that the attacker was also injured and"will pay a heavy price."

THE WHITE HOUSE WAS CLOSED

An armed attack occurred near the White House in Washington, DC. Two National Guard personnel were shot in the attack. It was reported that National Guard members were killed.

Following the attack, entrances and exits to the White House were closed for security reasons. Police announced that the suspect had been taken into custody, saying,"The scene has been secured. A suspect has been taken into custody."

TRUMP WAS ON THE GOLF COURSE DURING THE ATTACK

US President Donald Trump was reportedly at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, at the time of the attack. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said,"The White House is monitoring this tragic situation. The President has been briefed on the matter."

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed that two National Guard personnel were shot in the attack, but did not provide further details. The motive for the attack is not yet known.

Following the attack, numerous law enforcement officers were dispatched to the area, and a helicopter landed on the National Mall, home to famous monuments such as the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.
