These initiatives are supported by both parties and are intended to demonstrate Congress's readiness to take further action against Moscow.

The committee meeting is said to coincide with a visit to Washington by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who will meet with President Donald Trump and other lawmakers on Wednesday.

The passage of these laws is expected to allow senators from both parties to build political momentum for action against Russia and demonstrate that Congress is prepared to respond to Kremlin aggression.

"The more we can do here to stand up to Russia, the more we want to do it," Senator James Risch told Axios.

New Hampshire Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen added that since the White House appears unwilling to take action, it is important that Congress act decisively.

"And I'm very happy that for the first time this year we will have bills that will make it more difficult for Russia to continue this war," she explained.

During the meeting, the committee plans to consider three bills. One would recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism for the abduction of Ukrainian children. The second would provide for the transfer of Russian assets frozen by the United States to Ukraine every 90 days. The committee will also consider an initiative on economic sanctions against China for supporting Russia's military actions.

According to RBK-Ukraine, after Russia's latest massive attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed his partners. Zelensky stressed that Russia's words about diplomacy mean nothing until the Russian government experiences critical problems.

V. Zelensky noted that everyone who is currently helping Ukraine with air defense systems and missiles is saving lives.

"We are grateful for this. And anyone who helps Ukraine supply long-range missiles will bring the end of the war closer," Zelensky said.

NATO announces surprise meeting between Trump and Rutte on Wednesday

NATO has unexpectedly announced that Secretary General Mark Rutte will meet with US President Donald Trump in Washington on Wednesday. No public press conference is planned, Alliance spokeswoman Allison Hart said Tuesday evening.

The meeting comes as Trump continues his efforts to end the war in Ukraine. He spoke by phone with Russian leader Vladimir Putin last week and hinted at plans for a possible meeting with the Kremlin's leader in Budapest. However, US media, citing sources in the Trump administration, reported on Tuesday that the Budapest meeting had been postponed.

Ukraine hopes that if Putin does not make concessions, Trump will renew support for Kyiv and approve the sale of US-made Tomahawk cruise missiles.

"The further Ukraine's weapons reach, the greater Russia's desire to end the war will be," Zelensky said in a video message released Tuesday evening.

Political and military support for Ukraine will also be discussed on Friday at talks in London between the so-called Coalition of the Willing, led by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron. Rutte usually attends such meetings of Ukraine's main supporters.
