Welcome to our coverage of US politics.
In a major upset to Donald Trump, Democrat Zohran Mamdani has won the mayoral race in New York City.
The 34-year-old – who will become the city’s youngest mayor since 1898 – defeated (among others) Andrew Cuomo, an establishment Democrat who was running as an independent.
The US President, who had endorsed Mr Cuomo, earlier threatened to withhold federal funding from New York City if Mr Mamdani won.
Former Vice President Dick Cheney, who served under George W Bush in the 2000s, has died aged 84. He was the controversial architect of the “war on terror” against Iraq.
It’s November 4, so one year since Donald Trump won the election against Kamala Harris.
Traditionally November 4 is also the annual day for all sorts of elections in the US and today is no exception.
