Moroccan Government Position on Implementation

In a joint statement adopted at the end of talks in The Hague between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and his Dutch counterpart, David Van Weel, the Netherlands welcomed the progress made by Morocco, in particular the ambitious reforms implemented under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.

The Netherlands thus highlighted the Kingdom's efforts in political, economic and social development, in particular through the new development model, the reform of the Family Code, and advanced regionalization.

The Dutch side also expressed great interest in the Atlantic initiatives launched by the Sovereign for the benefit of the African continent, citing the Atlantic African States process initiative, the royal initiative to enable Sahel States to access the Atlantic Ocean, and the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline project.

These initiatives, the Joint Declaration emphasizes, aim to make the African Atlantic space a geostrategic framework conducive to intra-African development, stability and prosperity of the Continent.

The Netherlands also praised Morocco’s constructive role in the Middle East, paying tribute to the personal commitment of King Mohammed VI in his capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee.

The Netherlands also stated that genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the most feasible solution to definitively end this regional dispute.

The Joint Declaration also indicates that the Netherlands welcomes the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 and expresses its full support for the efforts of the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to facilitate and conduct negotiations based on the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, with the aim of reaching a just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution, as advocated by the relevant Security Council resolutions.
