Controversial Witkoff-Russia Interactions

The White House leader confirmed that he had asked Steve Witkoff, his special envoy, to travel to Moscow to speak directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin as part of efforts to finalize the peace plan.

According to the message published on the Truth Social platform, Witkoff's mission will take place concurrently with a series of consultations with the Ukrainian side. Trump said that US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll will lead the American delegation in talks with officials in Kiev.

Moscow and Kiev involved in finalizing the US Russia Ukraine peace plan

Trump stressed that the working document, called the"initial 28-point peace plan," has been "perfected" based on input from both sides. With only a few points remaining in disagreement, Washington hopes to finalize the proposal as soon as possible, given that discreet negotiations have already taken place in Abu Dhabi.

Dan Driscoll met with Russian officials in the United Arab Emirates on Monday and Tuesday, in a round of talks aimed at reducing tensions and bringing the two sides closer together. The meetings are part of a broader effort coordinated by the Trump administration to reach an agreement acceptable to Moscow and Kiev.

White House closely following developments on US-Russia-Ukraine peace plan

In his message, the president stated that he would be kept informed by his top team, consisting of Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, and Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

Trump also said he was willing to meet with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin, but only"when the agreement to end this war is final or in the final stages."

This chain of diplomatic contacts marks one of Washington's firmest moves in recent months to achieve a lasting peace framework, in the context in which the US-Russia-Ukraine peace plan appears to be entering its decisive phase.
