247 – Before the meeting held this Sunday (26) between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the President of the United States, Donald Trump, the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, stated that the Republican intended to discuss issues linked to the performance of the Brazilian Judiciary.
According to Rubio, the meeting would not be limited to economic issues, but would also include points of friction involving judicial decisions in Brazil that, according to him, affected companies and citizens of the United States.
"Look, Brazil is a large and important country. We believe that, in the long run, it's beneficial for Brazil to choose us as a preferred trading partner over China—because of geography, culture, and alignment in many aspects. Obviously, we have some issues with Brazil, particularly how some of its judges have treated the digital sector in the United States and individuals located in the United States through social media posts. We'll have to address those issues as well. That's become part of all of this," he said.
The secretary also emphasized that the U.S. government is seeking a diplomatic solution to reduce tensions related to the issue."The president will explore whether there are ways to overcome all of this, because we believe it will be beneficial to do so. It will take some time," he said.
