He spoke after Donald Trump's statements before the lunch they shared at the White House. After the American made economic support conditional on an electoral victory, the President tried to explain the Republican's statements that had sunk the markets."The world's leading power will continue to support us unless we once again embrace populism," he said.
The president spoke on X, after several of his cabinet officials came out to speak to try to calm the markets, which reacted badly to Trump's words: Argentine bonds and stocks that trade on Wall Street plummeted immediately after the American's words.
In that context, it was Milei himself who attempted to explain his counterpart's statements."The situation is crystal clear: if the country were to stray from the path of the ideas of freedom to return to populism, the United States would stop supporting our country. Otherwise, they would continue to support us," he commented.
"The support that you and your great country have given us is vitally important for the continuation of the long path of reforms we have undertaken," the president stated in an excerpt from his remarks addressed directly to Trump.
Milei added that Argentines"know that the world's leading power will continue to support us unless we embrace populism again."
