The US president met with Lula this Sunday to discuss Washington's tariff policy on Brazilian products.

247 – President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the President of the United States, Donald Trump, met this Sunday (26), in Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia. The meeting focused mainly on Washington's tariff policy on Brazilian products.

Before the meeting with the Workers' Party member, the Republican again commented on the conviction of Jair Bolsonaro, sentenced to 27 years and 3 months in prison for attempted coup d'état during the 2022 elections. Speaking to reporters, Trump said he"feels bad" for the former president.

"I always liked him. I feel really bad about what happened to him. I always thought he was an honest guy, but he's been through a lot," Trump said.

Jair Bolsonaro's name had already surfaced in previous discussions about taxing Brazilian products. The 50% tariffs were announced in July, under the argument that Brazil was adopting"unfair trade practices" with the United States and restricting free expression. In the official statement, Washington even cited the legal proceedings against the former president, who was convicted as part of the"Coup Plan" investigation.
