"Hungary will continue to have the lowest energy prices. In the case of the Turkish Stream and the Druzhba pipeline, they were granted immunity from sanctions. This is a general and indefinite exception," he said.
Hungary receives Russian gas through the Turkish Stream, and oil through the Druzhba pipeline.
Orban emphasized that this would allow"to protect the reduction of utility bills."
According to this publication, Trump himself, during a conversation with journalists during the open part of the working lunch with Orban, did not dispute the Hungarian Prime Minister's statement, but did not confirm it directly and unambiguously.
According to him, the US will completely lift sanctions against the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant in Hungary based on the Rosatom project. The exemption for it was supposed to expire in December.
Sanctions against Russian oil and gas
Donald Trump imposed sanctions on Russia's two largest oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil, in October. Buyers of their oil are, accordingly, facing secondary sanctions from the United States.
Hungary, along with Slovakia, continues to buy Russian oil, while other EU countries do not. Today, Orban suggested that it may to abandon Russian oil in the future.
