Macron stressed that a plan to end the fighting can only be finalized in the presence of Ukraine and European powers."There is currently no finalized plan regarding territorial issues, strictly speaking. Only President Zelensky can finalize it," Macron explained at a press conference alongside the Ukrainian president.

"As for the issues of frozen (Russian) assets, security guarantees, entry into the European Union and European sanctions, they can only be concluded together with the Europeans at the negotiating table," the French president believes, also condemning Moscow's continued attacks on Ukraine."At a time when we are talking about peace, Russia continues to kill and destroy," he warned.

Zelensky came to France to try to drum up support for a deal to end Russia's war in Ukraine. The Elysee Palace said earlier that the leaders would discuss the terms of a just and lasting peace. During the meeting, the two presidents, along with other European leaders, spoke by phone with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff.

The visit of the Ukrainian president, accompanied by his wife Olena, comes a day after talks between the US and Ukrainian delegations in Florida and a day before Witkoff meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Both the US and Ukrainian sides described the talks on Sunday as productive, but said some points of contention still need to be resolved.

Zelenskyy expects to hold personal talks with US President Donald Trump on"challenging key issues" on which there is disagreement. He also reiterated his call for Russia not to be rewarded for its aggression against Ukraine.
