Ceasefire Fragility and Future Concerns

UN and International Calls for Aid Access

US President Trump threatened,"If Hamas doesn't do what's necessary, the military operation will restart." Hamas announced that it had handed over the bodies.

Hamas reiterated its commitment to all conditions of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange. The latest statement read,"So far, we have handed over all the living hostages and the bodies we could find. Specialized equipment is required to locate and exhume the remaining bodies."

"WE NEED EQUIPMENT TO REMOVE THE REMAINING ISRAELI BODIES"

Hamas's armed wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, said they needed special equipment to exhume the bodies of Israeli prisoners remaining in Gaza.

The Qassam Brigades said in a statement,"The resistance remained faithful to the agreement reached and handed over all the living prisoners and all the bodies of the prisoners it could reach."

"Locating and exhuming the remaining bodies requires great effort and specialized equipment. We are working intensively to completely close this case," the statement said.

Hamas handed over the bodies of two more Israeli prisoners to the International Red Cross (ICRC) delegation as part of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza.

In a statement made by the Israeli army, it was reported that the coffins of the two Israeli prisoners were received by the Red Cross at the meeting point in the Gaza Strip. It was reported that the Red Cross delegation was on its way to deliver the coffins to the Israeli army.

Hamas has so far returned the bodies of 8 of the 28 dead prisoners in the Gaza Strip.  One of the 8 bodies returned was reported to belong to a Nepalese citizen, while Israel claimed that one of the bodies did not belong to an Israeli prisoner.  Israel, on the other hand, returned the bodies of 90 Palestinians it detained from Gaza.

TRUMP'S THREAT TO HAMAS

US President Trump made statements regarding the current situation regarding the ceasefire in Gaza in a phone interview with CNN.  Saying,"The situation with Hamas will be resolved quickly," Trump stated that he believes Hamas will lay down its weapons and that if this does not happen, Israel may return to attacks on Gaza.

When asked what would happen if Hamas refused to lay down its arms, the US President said,"As soon as I say my word, Israel will return to those streets (Gaza). If Israel could go in there and destroy them, they would have done it. I had to stop them."

Trump emphasized that the release of the 20 Israeli prisoners was crucial, but that Hamas must immediately return the bodies of the other prisoners and fulfill its"commitment to disarmament."

US President Donald Trump announced on October 9 that Israel and Hamas had approved the first phase of a ceasefire plan in Gaza during ongoing negotiations in Egypt.

While the agreement was signed in Egypt, where the negotiations were held, the agreement came into effect on October 10 with the approval of the Israeli government.

The peace summit, which focused on the ceasefire agreement that came into effect in Gaza, was held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, with the participation of many heads of state, including Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, US President Trump and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
