China supports Iran in defending its legitimate rights, China's foreign minister Wang Yisaid Saturday in a call with his Iranian counterpart, the Beijing foreign ministry said in a statement.
Wang told his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, that China would support Tehran in"defending its legitimate rights and interests," the ministry said.
The Israeli bombings of Iran's nuclear facilities"set a dangerous precedent with potentially catastrophic consequences," he said.
The Chinese foreign minister also spoke with his Israeli counterpart, Gideon Saar, and denounced the"attack by force" launched against Iran, according to a separate statement.
"Diplomatic means on the issue of Iran's nuclear program have not been exhausted, and there is still hope for a peaceful solution," he said.
"Force cannot lead to lasting peace," he added, according to the statement.
Wang also told the two foreign ministers that China would like to play a"constructive role" to reduce tensions in the conflict.
