During the local elections in the United States, President Donald Trump launched harsh criticism against Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani, the frontrunner in the New York City mayoral race, warning that the city “will have no chance of success or even survival” if he is elected. The messages, posted Tuesday on his Truth Social network, coincided with the voting process and amid growing political tension due to the partial shutdown of the federal government.
In his post, Trump called Mamdani “100% communist” and asserted that, if elected, the White House would drastically reduce federal funding to New York. “If communist candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the New York City mayoral election, it is highly unlikely that he will contribute more than the bare minimum of federal funds to my beloved hometown,” the president wrote. He added that “as a communist, this once-great city has no chance of success, or even survival.”
Trump also criticized Mamdani's political record, stating that"as an assemblyman he was a disaster" and that "as mayor he has no chance of restoring New York to its former glory." In another message, he warned Republican voters that supporting conservative candidate Curtis Sliwa would be"voting for Mamdani," and urged them to instead support former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent.
The president also included a comment directed at the Jewish electorate, stating: “Any Jewish person who votes for Zohran Mamdani, an avowed enemy of the Jews, is a stupid person.”
On parliamentary obstruction
Alongside his messages about New York, Trump released a lengthy statement demanding that Congress end filibustering, calling it “the necessary nuclear option” to allow the passage of his legislative agenda. “Democrats are far more likely to win the midterm and upcoming presidential elections if we do not eliminate filibustering… For three years nothing will get passed and Republicans will be blamed,” he wrote.
According to the president, eliminating the filibuster would allow him to “pass all the Republican policies dreamed of for years” and achieve “political victory after victory.” He listed among his priorities holding “fair, free, and secure elections,” strengthening the borders, tax and energy cuts, and defending the Second Amendment. He also insisted that “there will be no men in women’s sports and no transgender people for everyone,” reinforcing his message to the conservative electorate.
In another message, the president addressed the economic situation and inflation, highlighting the drop in energy prices. “If affordability is your problem, vote Republican. Energy costs are falling, with gasoline approaching two dollars a gallon,” he wrote, concluding, “When energy goes down, everything else follows.”
