Mayor of the city Gennady Trukhanov, who was deprived of Ukrainian citizenship, has a valid Russian passport and had a Russian internal passport, which was canceled.
About this reports the SBU press service, which notes that it has conducted a relevant investigation."The Commission under the President of Ukraine on Citizenship Issues has made a decision to terminate the citizenship of our state from the Mayor of Odessa, Hennadiy Trukhanov. Such a decision, in particular, is based on the evidence base of the Security Service and approved by the decree of the President of Ukraine," the message says.
According to the SBU, as of now, the current mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, is a citizen of the Russian Federation and has a valid passport of the aggressor country. Copies of the relevant documents are at the disposal of the Ukrainian special services.
According to the SBU, on December 15, 2015, after the start of the aggression against Ukraine and the temporary occupation of Crimea, as well as parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, Trukhanov received a foreign passport from the occupying country. It is said that the document, issued for a period of 10 years, is currently a valid document.
"As for the internal passport of the Russian Federation, according to available information, in 2017, Trukhanov's representatives filed a statement with the Russian authorized bodies, and as a result, a court in the Moscow region canceled the validity of his internal passport," the special service said.
At the same time, it is added that in additional explanations the court explained: the cancellation or refusal of a person from a document does not entail the deprivation of Russian citizenship acquired"on a legal basis."
Thus, according to the SBU, Trukhanov still remains a citizen of the aggressor country. He also has, according to the special service, an identification code that is displayed in the database of the"Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation."
The situation around Trukhanov
As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a decision regarding a number of individuals, who have confirmed Russian citizenship. Among them is the mayor of Odessa, Hennadiy Trukhanov. The mayor was"intercepted" by activists on the street and asked several questions. In particular, he was asked whether he was going to appeal this decision. Trukhanov replied that he was, but said that he was not going to leave Ukraine.
