The Maison des Lumières Denis Diderot was robbed in the Haut-Marne department.
It has already been reported that the Louvre was robbed on Sunday morning, raising the issue of security problems in French museums.
Initial investigations indicate that the thieves at Denis Diderot's House of Enlightenment were very skillful and precise in their selection of their prey.
Several museums in France have been robbed since the beginning of September. All the thefts followed a similar pattern and targeted particularly valuable objects, such as jewels, coins or objects of great historical value. It is not yet clear whether the thefts are related.
In mid-October, the Jacques Chirac Museum in Saran, in the Corrèze department, was robbed twice within 48 hours. The museum houses around 5,000 gifts Chirac received while he was president of France.
In September, the porcelain museum in Limoges and the National Museum of Natural History in Paris were robbed within two weeks.
Three Chinese porcelain objects classified as national treasures with a total value of 6.5 million euros were stolen in Limoges.
Gold worth 1.5 million euros has been stolen from the National Museum of Natural History. A 24-year-old Chinese woman was arrested in Barcelona as part of the investigation. It is not yet clear whether she committed the theft alone or with accomplices.
But the most scandalous of the recent thefts was, of course, Sunday's incident at the Louvre.
Thieves stole nine crown jewels in a matter of minutes in broad daylight, one of which was later found outside a museum. The thieves apparently lost it during their escape. The value of the stolen items is estimated at 88 million euros, but the monetary estimate, of course, does not reveal the historical value of the stolen jewels to France.
