The Israeli government agreed to the previously agreed-upon agreement on Friday morning local time. This came several hours after Donald Trump announced the success of the negotiations and the imminent launch of the first phase of the peace plan.
" The government has just approved the conditions for the release of all hostages: living and dead," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reported on the X portal.
Conflict in Gaza Strip. Hamas leader on US guarantees
Even before the Jerusalem government ratified the agreement, a Hamas leader spoke out about the ceasefire. Khalil al-Hajja confirmed that he had received guarantees from the United States, Arab states, and Turkey. Representatives of these countries assured that the war with Israel would be permanently ended.
Hajja stressed that as part of the agreement, Israel agreed to open the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, currently occupied by the local army, and to release all women and children who have been imprisoned since the beginning of the conflict.
As part of the exchange Hamas is to hand over 20 living hostages and the bodies of 28 dead, while Israel will release 250 Palestinian prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment and 1,700 people detained in the Gaza Strip, including all women and children from this group.
Israeli authorities also reportedly approved a partial withdrawal of troops from Gaza. Fleets of trucks carrying food and medical aid will be allowed to enter the territory.
At the time when the Israeli government press service reported on the ratification of the agreement, Reuters, citing high-ranking US officials, reported that Washington would deploy 200 troops to the region as part of the joint task force for the stabilization of the Gaza Strip.
However, the military will not be operating directly within the Palestinian enclave. Officials said the exact location has not yet been determined.
In addition to the Americans, the military mission will also include representatives of Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and probably the United Arab Emirates.
