The president has told European leaders that Ukraine will not be at war for decades, and they should show that they can provide stable financial support to Ukraine over a certain period of time, Zelensky told reporters in Kyiv.

Referring to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk's recent statements to the British newspaper"The Times", Zelenskyy said that he expects European heads of state and government to support Ukraine for another two to three years.

"If the war ends in a month, we will use the money for reconstruction," the Ukrainian leader said. If the war does not end so quickly, the funds will be used to purchase weapons, he added.

The EU is currently discussing the use of 140 billion euros of Russian assets frozen in Europe to support Ukraine. Belgium, where most of the frozen Russian assets are located, opposes such a move. It wants the risks to be shared among all EU member states and to be provided with legal protection in case of claims from Moscow.

At the European Council meeting last Thursday, the European Commission (EC), based on a request from Belgium, announced that it would also develop other possible options to provide Ukraine with large-scale financial support in 2026-2027.
