European officials have drawn up a counterproposal to be presented at the meetings, European sources quoted by Sky News said. It includes removing proposed limits on the Ukrainian military, restoring control of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant and resolving other territorial disputes after a ceasefire, according to the Washington Post.

"It is good that diplomacy is activated and that the talks can be constructive," said Volodymyr Zelensky.

"Ukrainian and American teams, teams of our European partners - we are in close contact and I very much hope that there will be results. The bloodshed must be stopped and it must be guaranteed that the war will not be resumed," Zelensky also said.

Senior officials from the United States, Ukraine, and national security advisers from France, Britain, and Germany are meeting in Geneva on Sunday to discuss Washington's plan to end the war in Ukraine.

On Friday, US President Donald Trump said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has until Thursday to approve the 28-point plan, which calls for Ukraine to cede territory, accept limitations on its military and abandon ambitions to join NATO.

“We hope to work out the final details… to craft a deal that’s good for them (Ukraine),” a U.S. official said. “Nothing will be agreed until the two presidents meet,” referring to Trump and Zelensky.
