Democracy and Authoritarianism Concerns

At over 2,500 locations in USA , as well as in some major European cities, people are now gathering to protest against President Donald Trump's rule.

It is the second mass demonstration under the slogan"No kings".

In mid-June, several million Americans gathered in various locations around the country to protest against the president. The criticism of Donald Trump is, among other things, about abuse of power and authoritarian leadership.

On organizer's website Among other things, you write:

“Now he’s stepping up – sending special forces into our communities, silencing voters, and handing out benefits to billionaires while families struggle. This is not just about politics. It’s democracy versus dictatorship. And together we choose democracy.”

Many protesters are expected to wear yellow – a color that organizers say symbolizes unity and references other peaceful resistance movements, writes CNN Others have dressed up. Pictures and films show clowns, frogs and the Statue of Liberty, among other things.

The organizers hope the demonstrations will be peaceful. At the same time, police forces around the country have mobilized. The New York police write on Platform X:

"The New York Police Department will be out all over the city to ensure that everyone can exercise their First Amendment rights in a peaceful and safe manner. We remind you that there will be zero tolerance for any illegal activity or those who break the law."

“No hate, no fear”

Outside Madison Square Garden in New York, people hold signs with the words “no kings” and “people before billionaires.” Protesters chant “this is what democracy looks like” and “no hate, no fear, migrants are welcome here,” the TV channel writes.

In Chicago, many protesters are particularly critical of the US immigration agency.

"They are attacking our neighborhoods with tear gas. They are arresting people indiscriminately from the streets, stores and homes," Kathy Tholin of the organization Invisible Chicago told NBC News.

Actor John Cusack, who lives in Chicago and has criticized Donald Trump several times, has a sour call for the president:

– Go to hell! Cusack tells CNN.

The US is no longer a democracy, says the researchers behind the world's largest democracy survey. The United States is today an “electoral autocracy,” that is, a country that holds elections, but where the ruling elite in practice controls power.

“Right now, the US has clearly crossed the line into an autocracy,” Staffan Lindberg, who heads the research institute V-dem, recently told Expressen.
