European Leaders' Engagement with Trump

US President Donald Trump has again spoken about the need holding elections in Ukraine. He writes about this Clash Report.

"Zelensky needs to be a realist. And I'm surprised how long it's been since there were elections in Ukraine," he said.

According to him, 82% of Ukrainians are allegedly demanding a peace agreement with the Russian Federation (it is unknown where he got such statistics from - UNIAN).

"They want a deal done. I get that. They're losing thousands and thousands of people every week. They want it to be over," Trump said.

He also claims that Ukraine has a"huge problem with corruption," adding:

"This is not throwing shade at anyone. People are asking: when will there be elections? Will there be any at all? Are they just going to continue like this?"

The US President also once again expressed the opinion that it is time to end the war in Ukraine.

"It's time to end this war, and I think it can be settled. But it takes two to tango," the politician noted.

Trump said European leaders want to meet with Ukrainian and U.S. officials over the weekend. He added that the U.S."wants to know some things" before the meeting and "doesn't want to waste time."

Trump's election statement

Trump previously said that Elections need to be held in Ukraine.

"They are using the war to not hold elections, but I think the Ukrainian people should have that choice. And maybe Zelensky would win. I don't know who would win. But they haven't had elections in a long time. You know, they talk about democracy, but it gets to the point where it's not democracy anymore," he said.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky held a conversation with representatives of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the topic of elections in Ukraine .

"I will not allow any speculation against Ukraine, and if partners, in particular our key partner in Washington, are talking so much and so specifically about the elections in Ukraine - about elections under the legal regime of martial law, then we must give Ukrainian legal answers to every question and every doubt. It is not easy, but we definitely do not need pressure in this," he noted.
