Serious bus accident in Serbia: three dead and 80 injured

The accident occurred at around 2:45 p.m. on the road connecting the town of Sremska Mitrovica and the village of Jarak, about 60 kilometers west of Belgrade. The bus was transporting workers employed by the company Healthcare.

According to local authorities, 35 people were transported to the hospital in Sremska Mitrovica and are hospitalized. Two people died at the scene of the accident, and a third died later during surgery in the hospital.

Driver detained

According to the Serbian Interior Ministry, it is not yet known why the bus veered off the road. The bus driver has been detained by local authorities, reports the N1 Serbia website.

Police, emergency medical services and the prosecutor on duty arrived at the scene of the accident. The injured are still receiving treatment while authorities investigate the cause of the accident.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. He said that this was a great tragedy and stressed that the country would do everything in its power in such difficult circumstances, Tanjug reports.
