Kananaskis (Canada) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz praised Israel for its attack on Iran. On the sidelines of the G7 summit, he told ZDF:"This is the dirty work that Israel is doing for all of us." He added that Germany, too, is affected by the regime.

Merz clearly stated:"This mullah regime has brought death and destruction to the world – with attacks, with murder and manslaughter, with Hezbollah, with Hamas. October 7 would never have been possible without the regime in Tehran. The supply of drones to Russia."

Merz emphasizes success of Israeli mission

In an interview with WELT (which, like BILD, is part of Axel Springer), Merz emphasized the success of the Israeli operation:"There are neither nuclear weapons in Iran, nor will there be any further support for global terrorism on this scale in this country."

The Chancellor thanked Israel, stressing on ZDF:"I can only say I have the greatest respect for the Israeli army and the Israeli government having the courage to do this. Otherwise, we might have continued to see the terror of this regime for months and years. And then with a nuclear weapon in hand, too."

How the conflict develops now depends on "the extent to which the mullah regime is willing to return to the negotiating table." Merz made it clear to WELT: If they are not willing to do so, the USA could intervene in the conflict. Merz explained that such a scenario had been discussed, and the decision would be made"in the near future."

The Chancellor emphasized how much the Israeli attack had weakened the terror regime:"It will not be as it was last week." Large parts of the military leadership are no longer alive, and the country's future is uncertain.
